50th Jubilee Writting

31.10.14
Oaklands School had their 50th Jubilee on Labour weekend this year.  I am in year 7.  In 50 years time when they have their 100th Jubilee I will be 62.  In 50 years I think these changes would have happened at Oaklands School...

They may not have self directed learning anymore (SDL) or the school just changed the name.  Also that they have changed the playground equipment, and a different amount of children in each class.  I also think that there will be more technology in each of the classrooms and maybe even longer lunch and morning tea breaks.  They might make morning tea and lunch earlier like, around 10:30am.  I think they might have changed the school uniform, like have a summer uniform, and new types of hats. I think that they might have changing rooms, so that when they have sport they can get there quicker.  I wonder what the discos and formals would look like in 50 years time?

What will the school turn out like when it's 100?

Factory farming speech

WALT: To write a persuasive speech.

Do you really know where your bacon and eggs come from?

Would you rather be an animal living free and having endless space. Or be a poor little animal crammed in a tiny little space and not having a healthy environment.

Some items you buy from your local supermarket come from a factory farm.  For example chickens. Chickens are in factory farms they are crammed in tiny little spaces and are forced to lay eggs.  Every two hours lights will be turned on and off so chickens that live in factory farms are forced to do things and aren`t living a happy and free life, unlike free range chickens.

But that`s just one animal, there are many other unhappy and in pain animals that are living in an unfair, crammed and forcing place.  See there is no reason having factory farms because in New Zealand there is loads of green grass, land, paddocks and farm land.  So why have them?

All animals like Chickens, Pigs, Cows and Turkeys are getting treated badly.  According to a study done by last chance for animals about one in every five Chickens die from stress or diseases but some of the outcomes for dead Chickens are worse.

If no one stands up and stops it more and more animals will be getting bad treatment and will have more of a risk or chance of dying.

So next time you go to the supermarket to get some eggs or other dairy products, make sure that it's free range because free range live happy lives.

Overall, I think that Factory farming should be banned because there is enough land and space for animals to live in and that the animals that have to live in factory farms are dying from diseases.

The SOLO level I have reached for surface features is relational because I have used some punctuation like full stops, commas and question marks, and I know why I have used them.

The SOLO level I have reached for my speech is multistructual because I have listed some reasons why it should be banned.

My next step is to use a different range of words.

Leadership

[25.8.14] Today I turned up to Peer mediation and Librarian. In peer mediation one of the people that I peer mediate with I had reminded but she couldn`t turn up because she had something on, so two other people filled in.After peer mediation the other responsibility I had was Librarian, when I got there I put away the rest of the returned books with some help from another person.I was being a leader by turning up to both of my responsibilities and letting Mrs ward know that I had peer mediation and that I would come to the library after.

Spirals learnt her lesson.....

WALT: To write a good story with a modern day moral.

One warm summers day on a tropical island, the trees were swaying in the breeze. The warmth of the sun was heating the sand and making the water glisten like diamonds. The only sound came from two cheerful rainbow parrots darting around.

After twenty minutes of playing hide and seek, Spiral found an amazing spot to hide in, amongst the pineapple trees.  Suddenly Spiral got a giant fright from a strange bird with dark grey feathers that started talking to her.  Then by offering Spiral a juicy looking mango,Spiral couldn`t resist.

Within three seconds Spiral dropped to the ground.  The dark grey bird Crackers was jealous of her brightly coloured feathers and was happy she was gone.

Ginja Ninja found Spiral in a very sick condition.  Ginja Ninja had a rush of panic run down her whole body.  She wondered who did this and why?  When a rainbow appeared  !  Ginja Ninja then felt a rush of relief, when she saw the magical fruit glistening on the rainbow.  She flew as fast as she could to retrieve the magical fruit and raced back so fast that her wings started aching.  Then she gave Spiral the magical fruit.

Within a few days Spiral recovered, and has learnt her lesson not to take things from strangers.

One day Spiral was splish splashing taking a bath, when she discovered under her wing a patch of dark grey.  To this day Spiral is always reminded not to accept things from strangers.

Since Spirals recovery her and Ginja Ninja have felt sorry for Crackers because he has dark grey feathers ,and they want to help Crackers have rainbow feathers just like them.

Crackers decides that he is sick of being the bad bird and he wont be mean to any other birds because he has no friends to play hide and seek, and has no more tropical parrots to pick on.

After a few weeks of being really nice, he got rewarded rainbow feathers!  They all became best of friends and played hide and seek.  Ginja Ninja was in "1,2,3,4,5,6,7" and so on.  Spiral and Crackers flew off so that Ginja Ninja would have to find them.  When Ginja Ninja got up to thirty seconds she yelled"READY OR NOT HERE I FLY!"

THE END

The solo level I have reached for surface features is relational  because I have used a range of different punctuation in my narrative and I know why I have used it.

The SOLO level I have reached for my narrative is relational because, I think my opening paragraph draws the audience in,and that my story is descriptive.

My next step is to expand my ideas.

What I've learnt in drama.

In drama this term something I've learnt is that you should use the whole space or area your given to make your play/scene interesting.Other reasons why you should use the whole space is to entertain the audience and so people can see what you are acting out.

My next step is to use the whole space and to be confident in the scene or play I'm in or doing.

MY EXPLANATION.

WALT:write an explanation.
Do you trust a well known brand?

Ergobaby is just one company that has been effected by someone breaking the Consumer Guarantees Act.
what is a the Consumer Guarantees Act and why do we have it?

We have a Consumer Guarantees Act to protect us when we're buying things, so we can replace, repair or redress things if something is faulty or develops a fault.

I'm going to talk about an example where the Consumer Guarantees Act has been broken, and how it has effected the consumer and businesses.

There is a group of people that have made a fake company of Ergobaby. They have been selling them to unknown customers. The consumers wouldn't be able to redress because they aren't a true company. So people aren't getting a real Ergobaby product, and people are getting lied to and whoever they are have been breaking the Consumer Guarantees Act.

One of the rules that were broken was fit for purpose. The buckle on the baby carrier couldn't hold much weight, which would have meant that the baby would have fallen out and could have even died.

The baby carrier definitely wasn't acceptable quality, because you wouldn't use it for holding your baby and you still would have to buy a new one.

Consumers also have a right to expect they aren't going to be tricked into buying something or for the retailer to lie to them. The effect on the businesses is that they would be losing a lot of money, and customers because they would be losing trust in them and the brand. Also the effect on the consumers would be that they wouldn't know if it's a real one or not,and they'd losing trust and would stop buying the real Ergobaby brand thinking it would be a fake.

Overall:The consumers Guarantees Act was broken because they hadn't followed the rules as a retailer should.

WOW in Wellington

October holidays, the day has come. It was going to be an amazing experience, I was so excited.

After our short flight to Wellington we went to the Weta cave and the Weta cave workshop, got ready and walked down to the wearable arts. When we entered and we waited for around 5-10 minutes. There was this guy just before it started and he was getting us all to clap and things like that. Then the lights went out the show was beginning .Taz,Lee-anne,my mum and I looked at each other all ready for the amazement.

Out came the models in the costumes they looked amazing. After some costumes there were these people dressed, all in white they were near the top of the roof on these  beams. They came rolling down like toilet paper coming off the cardboard roll.Another costume was so cool how the designers were so creative with their costumes.Like this pink dress that looked like you couldn`t move except when you were walking.

In one of the catagories they had these people that were on wheels rolling around in this fancy and creative costume.Taz & me figured out that they were the people singing oprah.I think it was after that there was a circus theme and there was a guy, that looked like he was just made out of muscles. Also there was another person that came out of a small clear box. After she had done her skills and things she squashed herself into that tiny box.

When the show had ended they announced the awards one of them was that pink dress. What an awesome show.

when we left we went to have dinner I ate indian it was delicous.

The next day was our last day.We went shopping,I bought a jersey.
After that we went to Wellington Zoo.Taz,Lee-anne and my Mum kept looking at them. The baboons have really pink and bare bums.I`m pretty sure we stayed there the longest. Finally we moved on.Then we looked at the rest of the animals like the Giraffes you could get up real close to them. Then it was time to leave Wellington Zoo.

We got a taxi and drove to the airport. We waited for quite a while.Me and Taz decided we would get chips and wedges.YUM! We also ate other snacks that we had brought.

We boarded our plane then back at Christchurch I said goodbye and left Christchurch airport. What an awesome two day holiday/trip.

THE END

MAKING CHOICES

Topic: what influences the choices we make.
Decisions: We all have to make them but they're not always the easiest thing to make.
Friends, family, role models, media and the law are only some of the things,we have to make.

Friends can be a major influence on your decision making. And to choose what's the right decision can be hard to make.

Family
You could be at home about to watch a movie and your friend calls and asks if you want to come around, you don't want to let down your friend no. Also you wouldn't want to let down your family by saying yes. Also on top of that the law can also change what you want to do.
Law
You could be at home and your mum said she's going to a friends house. You are too tired and want to stay home but your under age to stay home alone.

Media
You could be at home watching tv. When that advertisement comes up,it's the on that your friends have been non stop talking about.

These are many of the different influences that might have an influence to make the right choice.

Just remember its your decision in the end.
